How To Check If Your Computer Can Connect To TV

How To Check If Your Computer Can Connect To TV

As a public speaker, a preacher, or someone who loves to see videos or pictures on a big screen, Miracast wireless technology can help you extend or mirror the screen of your computer to a TV screen or monitor, projector, or any other streaming device that also support Miracast wireless technology.

Virtually all PCs support Miracast wireless technology as long as Windows 10 is the operating system. With Miracast, you can conveniently connect to mirror your PC’s display on a TV monitor or a projector.

However, if your PC is refurbished, you can check the manual to know if it has support for Miracast or not. On the other hand, if your PC was manufactured below Windows 10 was released, you need to follow the steps below to check if it has support for Miracast wireless technology.

Method 1

Step 1:

Press the Windows logo and R keys on the keyboard at the same time to open the Run command box. Your PC may bring out a dialog box that asks you to enter the name of a program or folder you want Windows to open for you, with “cmd” as the default. Just click OK with “cmd” as default. Alternatively, you can type “cmd” on your windows start or search bar. Click on “command prompt” to open your PC’s command box.

Step 2:

Type Dxdiag in the command box, and press Enter to open DirectX Diagnostic Tool.

If a dialog box pops up with the following message “Do you want to check if your drivers are digitally signed? To check your drivers, Windows might connect to the Internet, but doesn’t send personal information about your computer”, simply click the “NO” button.

Step 3:

Step 4:

Having saved the DxDiag file, navigate to the location where it was saved and right-click on it, and select open with Notepad. This opens the DxDiag file with Notepad.

Step 5:

Look for the Miracast entry in the DxDiag file. If your computer supports Miracast wireless technology, you will see the text “Available” next to Miracast as shown in the picture below.  This step is for those who can use the windows command prompt or who know a bit of programming.

Method 2

Follow the steps below if you don’t want to stain your hand with commands and codes. It is 100% correct especially if your PC does not show “Connect to a wireless display”. This is because a lot of reasons may prevent your PC from showing this link.

You can use your Windows Settings to check if your PC has Miracast

Step 1:

Open the Windows Settings

Step 2:

Navigate to System > Display. You should now see all display-related settings here.

Step 3:

You will see the “Connect to a wireless display” link in the Multiple displays section. With this link available, it then means that your PC has support for Miracast wireless technology.
